Types of IV Tubing
Filtered IV Tubing
Filtered IV tubing contains small micron filters that remove any contaminants within the IV products. These tubes filter out any particulates, bacteria, or other contaminants from the medical solution.
Vented IV Tubing
Vented tubes are used when a hard plastic or glass container is used to carry the medicine or solution. A vent can be opened to allow air into the container to displace the fluid as it moves through the tubing and into the patient.
Non-vented IV Tubing
Non-vented IV tubing is used when the container holding the medicine or solution is flexible. When set up properly, this tubing allows a vacuum to be created which will collapse the plastic IV bag as it is administered to the patient.
Gravity Tubing
Gravity tubing relies on gravity to control the administration of medicine to the patient. The IV bag is hung on a pole above the patient and the force of gravity is used to deliver the medication.
